Perth Money Expo - A Smash Hit!
The Committee particularly acknowledges the generosity of those West Aussies that attended the Expo for more than $1500 was received in donations as door entry.
President of ANDA, Belinda Downie, scored a number of radio interviews in the week leading up to the Expo, as did President of the Perth Numismatic Society, Walter Bloom.
The display at the Expo of the unique 1899 Perth Mint Proof Half Sovereign attracted the attention of Channel 7. A five minute segment on the Friday evening edition of This Day Tonight promoted the half sovereign, the Expo and the Perth Mint.
Advertising in the Western Australian was also extensive in the fortnight leading up to the Expo.
Other marketing initiatives included a prize draw of a 1917 Perth Mint Sovereign to past attendees. And hourly prize draws of 2017 Royal Australian Mint Uncirculated Sets.
And with the ANDA Money Expo web site in full operation(moneyexpo.net.au) it all contributed to a very successful show.
Managing Director of Downies, Ken Downie, commented that he was blown away with the influx of new collectors to the Expo. He particularly commented on the level of interest of young people.
Paul Hannaford and wife Moana, owners of International Auction Galleries, travel from the Gold Coast and had this to say. “This year’s Expo had a buzz about it that reminded me of the old days. It was the best Perth Fair for 10 years.”
‘Old hand’ at Coin Shows Steele Waterman said he felt his age with the relentless queues of visitors coming in for valuations even up until the closing time of 4pm Sunday. Of course he also added that he will be back next year for more.
Newly joined ANDA Member David Jobson of Town Hall Coins and Collectables was delighted with the Expo and re-iterated Steele’s remarks “I was really pleased with the diversity of collectors at the show. Perth continues to be very strong numismatic market and we can’t wait to be back next year!”
Again the Committee extends its thanks to Walter Bloom for developing the Five Cent Forage for the kids. The Foreign Coin Forage, also Walter’s brain child, was open to adults and again was a resounding success.
The ANDA Committee has developed an official $1 coin Folder to house the four dollar coins issued in 2017 for each of the Expos in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The folder proved an absolute hit with collectors and dealers and has further cemented the importance of the series. Folders are available from all ANDA Dealers and can be used to house the 2015 and 2016 series of coins, as well as this year’s 2017 coins. The recommended retail price is a modest $5.
Looking forward to seeing you in Brisbane.
